  Hermitage vines

  It was here in the vines of this granitic massif that the great vintage wines Hermitage, Crozes Hermitage, came to life. The wines obtained the label « Vignobles et Découverte » in 2011. The Syrah, Marsanne and Roussanne grape varieties ; the terraces walled with dry-stone or large pebbles from the Rhône river to tame the steep slopes ; the ground, a mixture of clay and pebbles stemming from ice erosion ; the sun ; the Rhône valley winds; all of these make up the alchemy of these renowned vineyards. First cultivated back in the Roman times, new vines completely replaced the old ones after the phylloxera disease in 1881. The wine industry crisis in 1920 compelled the winegrowers to set up a cooperative wine cellar in Tain l’Hermitage for both vinification and selling.
